At Marcoola Dental we provide a high level of service and care for our patients. The perfect smile for you can be achieved through continued preventative care. It’s our goal to educate our patients on ways to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
Preventing these problems from occurring can help you to:
Stay confident about the state of your oral health.
Reduce the cost of any future dental treatments by decreasing the need for further dental treatments.
Smile more frequently and no longer avoid smiling when photographs are taken.
A crown (dental restoration) that encapsulates a tooth, giving patients the protection against many of the harmful agents we place in our mouth daily.
Crowns aim is to save and protect an existing damaged tooth and involves capping a tooth or dental implant. They are often needed when a significant cavity threatens the structural integrity of the tooth. Our crowns are made from porcelain by a local laboratory in Maroochydore. Porcelain resists staining and can be made to match existing teeth.
Extreme temperatures (hot and cold), hard or tough foods, or acidic fruits and drinks damage our teeth overtime. If you experience sensitivity or discomfort a dental crown may be the answer to your problems.
Root Canal treatment (also known as endodontic treatment) is a series of procedures to save your tooth that has been damaged by decay, infection or
injury which otherwise would require an extraction. The dentist will remove the inflamed or infected pulp then refill the canal with filling material and the pulp chamber is sealed to prevent any bacteria from re-entering the canal.
Root canal treatment is preferred over extraction because real (natural) teeth will always function better than any unnatural teeth. They are much stronger and more efficient at chewing and biting than unnatural teeth. Even once root canal treatment has been carried out, the tooth will still survive because the surrounding tissue will nourish this tooth.

Lifestyle and personal factors can affect the overall condition of your teeth. Your dentist will inspect your teeth and may take x-rays. A dental examination can
identify problems such as decay, enamel defects, tooth sensitivity, discolouration, chips or cracks, broken-down fillings, misaligned teeth and gum disease.
The dentist will inspect the teeth and surrounding soft tissues of the oral cavity. The dentist generally uses an explorer, a slender instrument with a flexible, sharp point, to probe the minute indentations on tooth surfaces and around dental restorations for signs of demineralization and caries development. Fillings are also inspected, and a X-ray image of the teeth are sometime taken when required. The dentist may also insert a periodontal probe into the soft-tissue sulcus around each tooth to measure the depth of each sulcus and to explore for calculus and root defects. The examination should include inspection of the floor of the mouth, all surfaces of the tongue, the salivary glands and ducts, and the lymph nodes of the neck.
A veneer is a thin shell of material that is bonded to a tooth to cover the front surface of teeth for improving the appearance of your teeth.
Veneers are used to cover the front of damaged or unsightly teeth. They are thin, tooth-coloured shells carefully crafted to fit over your front teeth. Veneers are great for treating chipped, discoloured, mis-aligned or small gaps between the teeth.
Dental veneers can best be described as a disguise for your stained or damaged natural teeth. The veneers are attached to the teeth and are unrecognisable once the process is complete. Veneers are a well-practiced technique. And they provide excellent aesthetics and are only bonded to the front of the tooth that is visible when a person smiles.
Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, but most commonly to remove teeth which have become unrestorable through tooth decay
periodontal disease or dental trauma, especially when they are associated with a toothache. Sometimes wisdom teeth are impacted and may cause recurrent infections of the gum.
We understand that dentists aren’t a pleasant experience for everyone. And we understand that tooth extractions can be overwhelming to some patients. Our Dentist goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.
A dental bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth by joining an artificial tooth definitively to adjacent teeth.
A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap, these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth and a false tooth in between. Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.
Examination will identify problems. Even with regular brushing and flossing, plaque (a thick sticky film of bacteria) builds up on the surfaces of teeth.
Over time the plaque can harden to become calculus, known as tartar, which can cause dental problems such as decay or gum disease. Your dentist will inspect your teeth and may take x-rays. A dental examination can identify problems such as decay, enamel defects, tooth sensitivity, discolouration, chips or cracks, broken-down fillings, misaligned teeth and gum disease.
Your dentist will often recommend a six monthly clean to remove stubborn areas of plaque and calculus from the teeth. This may involve removal of the built-up calculus, using dental instruments for scaling of the tooth surface to remove plaque/calculus from above the gum line and in shallow pockets below the gum line. The benefits of dental cleaning include; healthier mouth, teeth feel smoother and looking cleaner and increasing the chance of keeping your teeth for life.
Marcoola Dental offers a take home teeth whitening method. Plastic trays are made from moulds taken of your mouth. Combined with the bleaching gels.
The trays are yours to keep and if future treatments are needed, you only need to purchase the bleaching gels.
When a tooth chips or breaks, it may not hurt. However, your tongue usually feels the sharp area quite quickly. Minor tooth fractures usually don’t cause pain,
but if a large piece of the tooth breaks off, it can hurt. If you have a broken tooth, see your dentist as soon as possible. Your dentist can diagnose if the cause of the break was a cavity, and if the tooth’s nerve is in danger.
Dental fillings restore teeth cavities by literally filling in the holes or cracks in the tooth. The decay is removed, the tooth is cleaned and then filled in with a filling
material. This stops the tooth from decaying further and the tooth becomes fully functional again.
Dental fillings, otherwise referred to as white or composite fillings are one of the most common dental procedures used to treat cavities or cracks in teeth.
Do you experience pain or sensitivity when brushing certain teeth? Does your tooth hurt when consuming hot or cold liquids? This may be a sign that you require a tooth filling. As a tooth decays, holes or cavities can result, which often causes pain and sensitivity. Fillings can restore teeth by filling the holes or cavities, as well as relieving pain. Dental fillings are also a preventative measure, used to stop decay from causing any further damage.
